Park Ho-sung (doctoral student, supervisor: Professor Kim Ji-hwan) of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering received the Excellent Paper Award in the language engineering field at the Korea Computer Congress (KCC 2020) held on 3 July 2020, for a paper titled 'A Self-Attentive Layer for Learning Discriminative Vectors in Low-Resource Speech Recognition'.

The Korea Computer Congress (KCC 2020) is an information science and technology conference at which the latest research results across every area of information technology — artificial intelligence, computer systems, information security and high-assurance computing and more — are presented. The paper, titled 'A Self-Attentive Layer for Learning Discriminative Vectors in Low-Resource Speech Recognition', proposes a method of achieving optimized performance in acoustic modelling settings that use little training data. The research appears to offer a way of developing speech recognizers that guarantee high performance even where large volumes of training data are hard to obtain.
