Selected for a New Project under the 2024 Global Basic Research Laboratory Programme of the Ministry of Science and ICT

Professor Kim Young-jae of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at Sogang University (President Shim Jong-hyuk) has been selected for the 2024 Global Basic Research Laboratory Programme run by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea.

The Global Basic Research Laboratory Programme supports small basic research groups centred on a specific research theme in order to strengthen the nation's basic research capacity; Professor Kim Young-jae was selected in the 'advanced' category, which supports the deepening of existing research in science and technology.

For his new project, Professor Kim will carry out research on 'a high-performance computing–data platform for accelerating large-scale machine learning' as a joint research team with Professors Park Sung-yong, Yang Ji-hoon and Moon Eui-hyun of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at Sogang University.

The team will receive up to 500 million won a year for about three years (1.375 billion won in total). The Departments of Life Science, Physics and Mechanical Engineering at Sogang University are currently carrying out projects under the same programme.
