Professor Kim Seung-wook Publishes 'Game Theory for Intelligent Network Control Paradigm'

Professor Kim Seung-wook of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at Sogang University has published his third specialist book, 'Game Theory for Intelligent Network Control Paradigm', with the distinguished American publisher IGI Global. Professor Kim has already published two specialist books with the same publisher; the first was indexed in Scopus in 2015 and the second in 2017, and they were also indexed in PsycINFO in 2022 and in the Book Citation Index (BCI) in 2023 in recognition of their academic contribution, with one selected as an Outstanding Academic Title in the United States.
Like its predecessors, this third book centres on game theory, but it deals with themes that converge with new ideas from AI. Although countless solutions have been proposed in the more than 70 years since game theory took shape as a discipline, applying it in practice remains difficult because of the strict assumption that 'every player fully understands the situation of the game'. AI, by contrast, has an outstanding ability to grasp its surroundings through remarkable learning, but is limited by the difficulty of explaining its judgements intuitively. 'Game Theory for Intelligent Network Control Paradigm' deals with the process by which the various cooperative game solutions Professor Kim has recently proposed and the latest AI learning algorithms work together to create a new intelligent network control paradigm. Put simply, the book is structured so that AI's remarkable learning ability compensates for game theory's greatest weakness — a lack of information about the game situation — while, conversely, game theory expresses AI's opaque decision-making process in elegant equations so that readers can easily understand the grounds for AI's judgements.
On the strength of these research achievements Professor Kim Seung-wook was named among the World's Top 2% Scientists this year and has received the Woondang Academic Grand Prize and the Albatross Academic Award, among others.
