Team Phase — master's students Yoon Sang-hyun, Hong Seung-hoon and Cho Yoon-ki of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering (supervisor: Nang Jong-ho) — received the Award of Excellence at the deepfake competition of the Korea Computer Congress (KCC 2025) held on 2 July 2025.
The competition was jointly organized by Sungkyunkwan University and the Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers.
Team Phase focused on the upsampling techniques used by deepfake generative models to produce images, developing a model that can detect the high-frequency and phase spectrum artifacts they inevitably create.
Yoon Sang-hyun, the team's representative, said: "Preparing for this competition taught me a great deal about deepfake detection, and I am glad that studying deepfakes last semester under our supervisor led to a good result."
The Korea Computer Congress (KCC), organized by the Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers, is Korea's largest conference in computing and information science, drawing some 2,000 participants each year to present their research. Graduate and undergraduate students at Sogang University regularly present research results at this conference, and further presentations and awards are expected.
