The universities rated 'best' in the 2017 industry-perspective evaluation by corporate executives and staff numbered 31, including Hanyang University. On the 18th, the Korean Council for University Education (KCUE) announced that a total of 44 institutions across five fields had been selected as best universities in the 2017 Industry-Perspective University Evaluation. Excluding universities appearing in more than one field, 31 institutions were selected as best, and 75 universities took part in the evaluation. The Industry-Perspective University Evaluation is a programme in which departmental heads from industry propose core competencies and related courses by field, and the degree of alignment with university curricula is assessed and reported, so that universities can voluntarily reflect industry demand in their curricula.
The evaluation was carried out in 2017 across five fields — software, electronics and semiconductors, information and communications, oil refining and petrochemicals, and cosmetics — covering 160 departments at 75 universities that had relevant departments and wished to take part. The evaluation was divided into three areas: industry-based curriculum design, operation and outcomes. The weightings were 30% for curriculum design, 50% for curriculum operation and 20% for curriculum outcomes. The curriculum operation assessment, conducted with graduates and current students of the relevant departments, and the assessment of staff job competencies by corporate department heads, drew on survey results gathered through a specialist research agency.
A total of 2,027 companies cooperated with the survey, including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Hyundai Mobis and Korea Electric Power Corporation. Executives and staff from 39 companies including Kakao, LG Electronics and COSON took part, as did specialists in university evaluation. Industry figures who took part in the evaluation commented that "the core function required in cultivating an industrial workforce for a rapidly changing future society is the development of applied ability," and that to that end "it is important to implement curricula composed of content closely tied to the industrial field."

In the software field, 55 universities took part and 16 were selected as best. The 16 are Gachon University, Konkuk University, Kyungnam University, Kyungsung University, Kyungil University, Gwangju University, Dongseo University, Dong-eui University, Sogang University, Sunmoon University, Sookmyung Women's University, Soongsil University, Woosuk University, Chung-Ang University, Hallym University and Hanyang University.
