Kim Tae-wook, a graduate student of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering supervised by Professor Kim Young-jae (master's graduate, February 2019), received the Outstanding Presentation Paper Award in the computer systems field at the Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers conference held on 19 December 2018.

The students took the honour of the Outstanding Presentation Paper Award for the paper 'Performance–Energy Tuning Through Object Placement in Hybrid Memory Systems' (presenter: Kim Tae-wook).

Heterogeneous main memory systems composed of DRAM and NVM have recently been the subject of active research as next-generation memory. This paper addresses methods of placing memory objects so as to optimize performance while satisfying, at the memory level, externally imposed constraints on energy consumption in heterogeneous main memory systems. The paper demonstrates the merits of the proposed methodology by placing objects so as to save up to 14% more energy than MOCA (IPDPS '18, a top venue in computer systems), a recently studied placement technique, at equal performance, while also determining object placement more than four times faster.
