The University has been selected for the '2021 Global Core Talent Development Support Program' announced by the Ministry of Science and ICT. The programme builds cooperative networks with technology-leading countries in promising ICT technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and leading innovative growth technologies, and cultivates advanced talent by giving domestic master's and doctoral students experience through joint research and internships. The supported fields are promising ICT technologies and leading innovative growth technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud, big data, blockchain, next-generation security and communications, and VR/AR.

The University was finally selected after proposing an educational programme in which 15 Sogang University graduate students are selected to complete advanced AI coursework at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in the United States, which offers world-class research and educational programmes in artificial intelligence (project title: 'Global AI-Leading Sogang-CMU Graduate Talent Development Project'; principal investigator: Nang Jong-ho, Department of Computer Science & Engineering). Under the proposed project, 15 students conducting AI-related research in the University's graduate programmes will be selected internally through documents, examination and interview, and will spend six months at CMU (January–June 2022) taking four AI-related courses and carrying out individual projects in order to acquire world-class AI technology. A total of 1 billion won in funding is provided by the Ministry of Science and ICT to run the programme, and this funding is used for the costs of the students' education (about 60 million won per student, including CMU tuition, airfares, living costs on site and visa fees).
