Dr Byun Hong-su, a BK post-doctoral researcher at Sogang University, was appointed as an assistant professor in the Computer Science & Engineering major of the College of AI Convergence at Korea Aerospace University with effect from September 2026.

Dr Byun Hong-su received his bachelor's degree in computer science & engineering from Sogang University in 2021. He then entered the combined master's–doctoral programme of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at Sogang University and received his doctorate in 2026 under the supervision of Professor Park Sung-yong and Professor Kim Young-jae.

His main research field is storage systems for data infrastructure, in which he achieved outstanding results, presenting and publishing nine papers at BK21 outstanding international conferences and three in SCI(E) journals. Data infrastructure is a core field for storing and processing large volumes of data efficiently; its importance is growing with the spread of AI and data-centric computing, and major companies in Korea and abroad are actively pursuing related research and development. On the strength of this research capability, Dr Byun was also selected as an industry-academic scholarship student at Samsung Electronics and SK hynix during his doctoral course.

Dr Byun Hong-su said: "I am grateful to Professor Park Sung-yong and Professor Kim Young-jae for their guidance. I am also grateful to my alma mater, Sogang University, where I was able to grow into a researcher while gaining a variety of experiences and memories in a good educational environment from my undergraduate days." He added: "As AI technology advances rapidly, computer science is becoming ever more important. I will do my best in computer science teaching and research."
