Consecutive awards: the Academic Award of the Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers and the Science and Technology Excellent Paper Award of the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies

Professor Nang Jong-ho of the University's Department of Computer Science & Engineering has received, in succession, the Academic Award of the Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers and the Science and Technology Excellent Paper Award of the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies, in recognition of his outstanding research achievements.

Professor Nang received the Academic Award at the 2018 Korea Computer Congress and Extraordinary General Meeting, organized by the Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers and held at the International Convention Center Jeju from 20 to 22 June.

The Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers, founded in 1973, is the society representing computer science and engineering in Korea. Each year it selects one researcher who has published a number of outstanding papers in its journals and confers the Academic Award; this year Professor Nang of the University was selected.

The 2018 Science and Technology Annual Conference followed on 27 June at the COEX Auditorium. There Professor Nang received the Science and Technology Excellent Paper Award, conferred by the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies, for the research paper 'A Method for Extracting the Best View from Video Capturing a Player of Interest with Multiple Cameras'.

Now in its 28th year, the Science and Technology Excellent Paper Award is conferred on outstanding papers published in domestic journals the previous year: papers recommended after rigorous review by the relevant society are then assessed and selected by the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies, and the award is recognized as the most prestigious in the field.
