A paper by master's student Lee Chung-seop of the Embedded Computing Laboratory (ECL) (supervisor: Professor Lee Hyuk-jun) has been accepted at the 2020 Design Automation Conference (DAC). DAC is a conference covering computer architecture, embedded systems and software, machine learning, security and more, and is listed as a top conference in the KIISE 'Revised List of Outstanding Software Conferences 2018' (see attachment 1). It is also listed at a recognized IF of 3 in the 'List of Outstanding International Conferences in Computer Science under the BK21 Plus Programme' (see attachment 2).
The paper is titled 'EANeM: Energy-Aware Network Stack Management for Mobile Devices' (first author: Lee Chung-seop; corresponding author: Lee Hyuk-jun; co-authors: Lee Gun-hyuk, Kang Min-gu). It proposes the EANeM framework, which provides low power consumption while satisfying application QoS when using the network stack in mobile environments employing heterogeneous multi-processing (HMP) architectures. The proposed framework comprises a network manager that monitors the network stack and limits bandwidth, a power meter that measures power according to system state, and a scheduler that provides optimal energy in settings using the network stack. By limiting the bandwidth of network applications and scheduling threads to system states that provide optimal energy, EANeM can indirectly control the high-priority interrupt handlers that process network packets, while simultaneously providing optimal energy and satisfying the QoS of both network and non-network applications.
