AI System Software Laboratory (Supervisor: Professor Kim Young-jae) Has a Paper Accepted by IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems (IF: 3.402, 2019)

“An Integrated Indexing and Search Service for Distributed File Systems,” written by Awais Khan (PhD Student from Computer Science Department) in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, TN, USA under the supervision of Prof. Youngjae Kim has been accepted for publication in IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems (TPDS), the world's leading internationally renowned journal in the field of parallel and distributed systems. In this paper, we proposed and designed a file system integrated scientific metadata indexing, search and discovery service atop of Ceph (Open Source Object Storage Platform).

The proposed idea is a scalable data management service aimed at complex scientific datasets, which can be integrated into prevalent shared-nothing distributed file system architectures such as Gluster and CephFS. Internally, it provides scalable, distributed metadata indexing framework, which facilitates a flexible tagging capability to support data discovery. It allows to associate an index term or a “tag” to store, preprocess and filter data for later efficient retrieval of desired data from millions and billions of files. Along with automatic metadata extraction and indexing, it provides execution of active operators to expedite scientific simulations and analysis.

IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems (TPDS) is a distinguished international journal covering research in parallel and distributed systems.
