About · Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence

Researching at the frontier
of artificial intelligence

The graduate programme in artificial intelligence at Sogang University opened in 2022. The graduate school came before the undergraduate department because artificial intelligence is, above all, a field that needs research.

Three axes carry the work: perceptual intelligence and multimodal algorithms spanning sight, hearing and language; advanced algorithms such as explainable AI and meta-learning; and the systems technology — GPU optimisation, parallel training — that makes artificial intelligence actually run.

The faculty is centred on artificial intelligence and computer science but reaches across the university — electronic engineering, business, economics, mathematics, art & technology. Artificial intelligence sits wherever the disciplines meet, and graduate students find their own subject somewhere in that breadth.

  • Dig in with the language of theory.

Explain why a model behaves as it does in the language of mathematics, statistics, optimisation and information theory. Before raising performance, understand where that performance comes from.

  • Span the whole range from perception to reasoning.

From multimodal work that fuses sight, hearing and language into one intelligence, through explainability, meta-learning and knowledge graphs, extend the full spectrum of artificial intelligence into next-generation research.

  • Drive algorithm and system together.

Take on GPU optimisation, parallel training and accelerator design to clear the bottlenecks of the large-model era, and learn to design algorithm and hardware as one.

  • Take on the real problems of industry.

Make active use of track partnerships, scholarships and industry projects with companies such as LG Electronics and Smilegate, and turn the problems those companies actually face into research subjects.
