Those who understand the principles
build the next generation of technology

Graduate study in computer science is not a place to absorb settled knowledge. It is where you define a problem that has no answer yet and prove your way through it.

More than twenty laboratories at Sogang University carry out research across the whole of computing — algorithms and theory, systems and architecture, artificial intelligence, data, graphics and security.

In each laboratory the advisor and the graduate students set the problem together, and publish the result to the field through international conferences and journals.

The research does not end in the laboratory. Through the industry track that runs to LG Electronics, Samsung Semiconductor and Hyundai Mobis, and through joint projects with government and industry, graduate students take on problems from the field while still enrolled and prove their answers as papers and as technology at once.

  • Set your own question.

Go beyond solving a given problem to finding what has not been solved. Every piece of research begins with a critical reading of prior work and a question that is your own.

  • Immerse yourself in the laboratory.

Work closely with your advisor in a laboratory for algorithms, systems, artificial intelligence, graphics or security. Seminars and directed research build both method and the disposition of a researcher.

  • Prove the value on the world stage.

Submit results to the best international conferences and journals and let peers around the world examine them. Writing a paper is not record-keeping — it is the core act of proving that the research holds.

  • Move freely between industry and academia.

Carry out research under the constraints of real systems through the industry track, joint projects and field placements, and graduate able to take a central role in a research institute, in industry or in academia.
